Ingredients

For the cakes:
Lemon Fairy Cupcakes - Source: goodtoknow.co.uk
  • 100g butter
  • 100g golden caster sugar
  • 2 eggs, mixed with 2tsp vanilla extract
  • 100g self-raising flour
  • 1-2tbsp milk
  • Zest of 1 lemon
For the topping:
  • 100g butter
  • 200g icing sugar
  • 1tsp vanilla extract
  • Lemon curd

Method
  1. Line a 12-hole muffin tin with paper bun cases.
  2. Cream the butter and the sugar in a food mixer until light and fluffy, then gradually beat in the eggs and the flour. Add the milk so the mixture easily drops off a spoon. Add the lemon zest and stir through the mix.
  3. Put 1tbsp of mixture into each fairy cake case and bake near the top of a preheated oven at 190°C (375°F, gas mark 5) for 12-15 mins, until springy to the touch, golden and risen. Transfer to a wire rack to cool.
  4. For the topping, beat the butter with 50g (2oz) icing sugar, then add the rest of the icing sugar and the vanilla extract (add a few drops of natural food colouring for coloured icing). Scoop the very top off each cake and cut in half to make 'wings'. Mix some lemon curd into the butter cream, then fill each cavity and place the 'wings' on top.
  5. Or spread over coloured butter cream and add decorative flowers

Can You Let Go of the Leprechaun’s Gold?

At Flingers we love St Patrick’s Day as it is a great excuse to dress up and have fun whilst learning a little more about the Irish culture! We hope you’ve all got your St Patrick’s Day fancy dress sorted out and found yourself a little leprechaun luck whatever you are up to today.

In the spirit of St Patrick’s Day, we have discovered the awesome game that we wanted to share with you. Perfect to impress and intrigue young and old! A simple challenge sure to put a smile on the face of anyone who plays along.

Can You Let Go of the Leprechaun’s Gold?

Can you let go of the Leprechaun’s Gold on Spoonful
What you’ll need:

 A coin
         A willing participant!

How to play:
  • The Setup: Put your hands together, palms facing. Bend your middle fingers as shown, then ask someone to slip a coin between the tips of your ring fingers.

The Challenge: Try to release the coin by pulling apart your ring fingers. Letting go of money is usually easy, so how come here it's so hard?

  • What's Going On: Because it lacks certain tendons that your other fingers have, your ring finger is at the mercy of its next-door neighbour, the middle finger. The two are connected by a piece of cordlike tissue, and when your middle fingers are bent as they are here, it tightens, drawing together your ring fingers. Until you unfold your middle fingers, the coin is all but impossible to release.

Don’t forget, if you need any last minute St Patrick’s Day supplies of fancy dress, costumes or tableware, pop in store at 73-75 Gloucester Road where we will be open until 5:30pm!

Spring Party Themes

Spring in finally upon us! We’re defiantly noticing the lighter evenings, the blue sky, the daffodils blooming and the fresh spring air, heralding that a new season is upon us.

We think this is a great time to have a little party at home, welcoming Spring into our lives, catching up with family and enjoying the gentle colours of Spring blossoming. Pastel tones are perfect to represent the gentle colour of this new season as we slowly build into the vibrant and bolder colours of Summer. So we recommend using this as a very simple and affordable theme for your party.

Yellow in particular it a colour long associated with spring and its vibrancy represents the new life and new starts that Spring brings.

Hang colourful polka dot bunting from the ceilings, create fun paper chains and inflate pastel coloured balloons to brighten up your party. (Don’t forget we can inflate your balloons with Helium in store at Flingers Party Shop!)
If you fancy getting a little creative with your decorations, why not pick up some pastel coloured Crepe Paper Streamers and follow our tutorial on how to turn them into an impressive decoration feature to impress your guests.

Make sure to bring the outdoors inside. We know it is still a little too chilly to hold your party outside, so place flowers around the room and stick Daffodil Pinwheels in spare vases to really deliver the Spring theme to your party. And if you are thinking to serve food or have a buffet, check out our range of paper plated, polka dot napkins and bold cutlery which will all suit this trend and colour scheme perfectly. Throw on a polka dot hat and the party can get started!

There is plenty of colourful, simple and quality decoration available both online and in store at Flingers Party Shop so you have no excuse not to impress your guests with some Spring perfect decorations. And remember, delivery online starts from just £1.40!
