Can You Let Go of the Leprechaun’s Gold?

At Flingers we love St Patrick’s Day as it is a great excuse to dress up and have fun whilst learning a little more about the Irish culture! We hope you’ve all got your St Patrick’s Day fancy dress sorted out and found yourself a little leprechaun luck whatever you are up to today.

In the spirit of St Patrick’s Day, we have discovered the awesome game that we wanted to share with you. Perfect to impress and intrigue young and old! A simple challenge sure to put a smile on the face of anyone who plays along.

Can You Let Go of the Leprechaun’s Gold?

Can you let go of the Leprechaun’s Gold on Spoonful
What you’ll need:

 A coin
         A willing participant!

How to play:
  • The Setup: Put your hands together, palms facing. Bend your middle fingers as shown, then ask someone to slip a coin between the tips of your ring fingers.

The Challenge: Try to release the coin by pulling apart your ring fingers. Letting go of money is usually easy, so how come here it's so hard?

  • What's Going On: Because it lacks certain tendons that your other fingers have, your ring finger is at the mercy of its next-door neighbour, the middle finger. The two are connected by a piece of cordlike tissue, and when your middle fingers are bent as they are here, it tightens, drawing together your ring fingers. Until you unfold your middle fingers, the coin is all but impossible to release.

Don’t forget, if you need any last minute St Patrick’s Day supplies of fancy dress, costumes or tableware, pop in store at 73-75 Gloucester Road where we will be open until 5:30pm!
